Model Schools
What does a model Durham public school look like that fosters the wellbeing and mental health of everyone in the school community?
Neal Middle School and Southern School of Energy and Sustainability (SSES) serve as our WHOLE Schools Movement Model Schools in a collaborative process to co-create approaches to becoming a model school where the mental health and well-being of every student, educator, and staff member are at the forefront.
These schools are the leaders in reimagining the school environment as a holistic, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive support system.
The WHOLE Schools approach is rooted in deep engagement with the whole school community (including students, families, teachers and staff) alongside mental health experts and community partners.
Working groups composed of school community members and health experts will drive the initiatives, ensuring that every voice is heard and that the strategies implemented are relevant and effective.
