Community Education
The WHOLE Schools Movement offers little to no cost training, events, and resources to enhance wellness within the Durham Public Schools community. We’re committed to creating a systemic impact by sharing our insights and collaborating with others to advance youth mental health.
We aim to engage and support the entire Durham Public Schools (DPS) community, including students, educators, families, and local partners. Our focus is on fostering wellness and providing resources that:
Foster a shared language and understanding around mental health to diminish stigma and encourage open discussions.
Equip individuals with practical skills for managing mental health, such as mindfulness & coping strategies.
Connect community members with resources to meet their mental health needs.
Discover New Dimensions of Well-Being
The WHOLE Schools Movement offers engaging events that provide hands-on experiences for our community to explore various dimensions of wellness.
How often do you make time to connect with nature? Previous events explored the benefits of immersing yourself in the natural world with events like:
Environmental Fun Fest - Celebrated the beauty of nature with interactive activities for all ages.
Therapeutic Gardening Session - Showcased how gardening can improve overall quality of life and support therapeutic goals.
Join us for upcoming events and explore more ways to be well!
Wellness in Action
WHOLE Schools partnered with DPS’s Hub Farm and Northern High School’s Culinary Arts Department to offer enriching opportunities for our community to learn how to be well. Families participated in a virtual cooking night, discovering new recipes and the joy of preparing healthy meals together.
To support physical wellness, we also hosted a stretch and mobility session at Hub Farm, where participants focused on improving their physical health and left with their own yoga mats to continue their wellness journey.
Building Healthy Minds & Stronger Schools Together
At WHOLE Schools, we are dedicated to bringing the Durham Public Schools community together to explore resources and discuss mental health openly. Our events and opportunities are designed to connect, convene, and converse about wellness, fostering a supportive network across our schools.
The Healthy Minds, Stronger Schools Conference brought together middle and high school students, caregivers, educators, and community members for dynamic discussions on wellness. It was a vibrant event where attendees engaged in skill-building sessions, connected with local resources, and heard from student panels and policy makers.
